Choosing Marbles
Choose with the stone in view
Inspect representative slabs for veining, shade, finish and natural variation. Discuss the intended floor, wall or countertop use and the level of care you are comfortable providing. Marble can react to acidic spills, so consider daily use carefully.
Agree fabrication details
Approve slab placement, vein direction, seams and edges before cutting. Include support, installation and any suitable protective treatment in the plan. Keep an agreed record of the selected slabs.
Installation
Installing Marbles
Plan for the actual marble
Use specialists to assess substrate, support and a compatible fixing system. Some stones need particular attention to moisture, backing and staining risk. Heavy wall slabs may require engineered mechanical attachment.
Work in stages
Dry arrange pieces and inspect alignment before completing the surface. Use professional cutting and finishing with appropriate dust controls. Protect the installation during curing and agree any site polishing or sealing before work begins.
Maintenance
Maintaining Marbles
Clean gently
Remove dust and grit, then use a neutral cleaner approved for the stone. Blot spills promptly. Avoid vinegar, lemon-based cleaners and other acids that can etch marble.
Distinguish stains from etching
A dull mark may be surface damage rather than dirt. Repeated scrubbing can worsen it. Ask a stone specialist to identify the issue before selecting a cleaning or restoration treatment.
Care
Caring for Marbles
Prevent avoidable wear
Use coasters, trivets, mats and furniture pads where appropriate. Lift heavy objects and protect the surface from impacts. A sealer may help with some stains but does not make marble immune to acid etching.
Preserve its finish
Confirm treatments for the actual marble and test discreetly. Have cracks or worn polish assessed by a restoration specialist. Keep slab records, spare pieces and details of products applied to the surface.
