Product selection
Choosing Wooden & Laminate Flooring
Identify the flooring type
Solid wood, engineered wood and laminate have different installation and care needs. Choose for room use, traffic, moisture exposure and the desired finish. Water-resistance claims apply only to the specific product and its installation conditions.
Plan the details
Compare samples and include underlay, trims and transitions in the budget. Ask the installer to check the base, door clearance and compatibility with any underfloor system before ordering.
Installation
Installing Wooden & Laminate Flooring
Check the base and conditions
Follow the product's requirements for substrate flatness, moisture checks, acclimatisation and underlay. Confirm whether the system is floating, glued or mechanically fixed; do not interchange methods.
Allow movement
Plan perimeter gaps and transitions as specified. Confirm details around heavy fixed furniture before laying a floating floor. Check joints and damaged boards progressively, then hand over the cleaning and moisture precautions for the actual product.
Maintenance
Maintaining Wooden & Laminate Flooring
Remove grit gently
Sweep or use a suitable soft vacuum head. Clean with a lightly damp method and products approved for the finish, removing spills promptly. Avoid soaking the floor.
Use the correct routine
Steam cleaning, wax and polish are not universally suitable. Check the exact instructions before using them. Keep entrance mats clean and inspect edges for swelling, separation or recurring moisture.
Care
Caring for Wooden & Laminate Flooring
Reduce scratches
Fit suitable furniture pads and lift heavy items. Manage indoor conditions within the product's recommended range. Protect the floor from leaks and standing water.
Choose repairs by material
Laminate and real wood require different repairs; sanding is not a general remedy for laminate. Have swelling or movement assessed before replacing boards. Keep spare boards and the flooring, underlay and installation details.
