Product selection
Choosing the Right Tiles for Your Space
Start with the space
Tell the Onlystone team whether your project is a living room, kitchen, bathroom, balcony, commercial space or vehicle driveway. Include indoor or outdoor use, expected traffic and exposure to water. Choose a product approved by its manufacturer for that application.
Balance design and performance
Compare ceramic and vitrified options, sizes, colours and finishes using physical samples. View them under your room lighting. For wet floors, ask for documented slip-resistance suitability; appearance alone does not establish safe grip. Parking areas need a suitable tile and a properly designed supporting base for the expected vehicle loads.
Plan your order
Use OEW’s Room Visualizer to explore the look and its quantity calculator to estimate your requirement. Have your installer confirm measurements, layout, cuts, wastage and spare tiles before ordering. Check the product code, shade and size batch on delivered boxes, and report visible defects before laying.
Bring your room measurements, photos and intended use to Onlystone for help shortlisting products.
Installation
Tile Installation: Prepare, Lay and Finish
Prepare before laying
Use an experienced installer and follow the selected tile, adhesive and grout instructions. Confirm that the substrate is sound, clean and suitably level. Plan the layout, cuts and drainage before starting. Wet areas require an appropriate waterproofing system; tiles and grout alone are not a substitute.
Choose compatible materials
Select adhesive for the tile type, tile size, substrate and application area. Follow its mixing ratio, working time and specified application thickness. Do not assume one adhesive suits every project. Agree joint spacing and movement joints with the installer and product supplier.
Check the work as it progresses
Inspect the first laid section for alignment, pattern, joint consistency and adhesive coverage before continuing. Remove fresh adhesive and grout residue as directed by the manufacturers, without damaging the finish.
Allow the system to cure
Follow the actual adhesive and grout instructions before walking on the floor, moving furniture or exposing it to water. Curing times vary by product and site conditions. Ask your installer for a handover covering cleaning, protection and any remaining curing restrictions.
Maintenance
Everyday Tile Cleaning and Maintenance
A simple cleaning routine
For ceramic and vitrified tiles, sweep or vacuum loose grit before mopping. Use a soft mop and a cleaner confirmed suitable for both the tile finish and grout. Follow the cleaner’s dilution instructions. Change dirty water, rinse as directed and remove excess water so residue does not build up.
Clean spills promptly
Wipe up food, drinks and oily spills. Keep wet areas clean and dry after use where practical. For textured surfaces and grout lines, use a suitable soft brush rather than abrasive pads or metal tools.
Match the cleaner to the surface
Avoid experimenting with strong acids, abrasive powders or mixed cleaning chemicals. Test a recommended product on a small inconspicuous area first. Persistent grout haze or stains need a compatible specialist cleaner and product-specific advice.
These routine tips apply to manufactured ceramic and vitrified tiles. Natural stone, terracotta and other specialist finishes need their own care instructions.
Care
Protecting Your Tiles for the Long Term
Prevent avoidable damage
Use clean entrance mats to reduce tracked-in grit. Fit suitable protective pads beneath furniture and lift heavy items when moving them. Protect finished tiles during further building work with clean, non-abrasive covering approved by the installer, after the installation has cured.
Watch for changes
Inspect tiles and joints periodically. Report cracks, loose tiles, recurring dampness or deteriorating joints to an experienced installer. Address the underlying cause before cosmetic repairs. Keep drains clear in wet and outdoor areas, and remove slippery spills promptly.
Check before applying treatments
Sealing requirements depend on the exact tile finish and grout. Ask for the manufacturer’s recommendation before applying sealers, polish or coatings. A treatment unsuitable for the surface can change its appearance or grip.
Keep useful records
Retain spare tiles, box labels, invoices and care instructions. Product codes and batch information help when a replacement is needed. Share clear photos and details of the tile and cleaning products with Onlystone when requesting help.
